Krondorf Wines releases its latest vintage icon wine: The 121 Settlers Shiraz 2021

14 May 2025
Krondorf Wines is releasing its newest vintage of the Barossa Valley winery’s icon wine, the Krondorf 121 Settlers Shiraz 2021. The namesake of this wine pays homage to the original settlers who founded Krondorf, Barossa Valley, and their enduring spirit to express this distinctive terroir.
Inspired by their story, Krondorf Wines honours the legacy of the 121 settlers—humble pioneers who built a life from the land guided by love, faith and hope. Today, that spirit lives on through rare old vines, around 60 years of age, which give this wine its remarkable character.
The 121 Settlers Shiraz 2021 was crafted by Chief Winemaker Tim Heath, who has a wealth of experience in Barossa Valley winemaking and has worked in acclaimed regions such as Northern Rhone, New Zealand, Clare Valley, and Coonawarra.
“The 2021 season in the Barossa brought ideal conditions for our pinnacle release wine and is noted as one of the renowned vintages of the decade. A mild, even summer, along with excellent winter and spring rainfall, set up the vineyards with strong canopies and well-formed bunches ahead of harvest. With a full soil moisture profile and a long, even ripening period, the fruit developed outstanding flavour and balance. The resulting wines show remarkable depth of colour and purity of varietal character. It’s a standout vintage—generous, structured, and built to age gracefully,” Heath said.
The fruit for this wine comes from a single site at the southern end of the Barossa. The site lies in the St Jakobi area, over the western ridge of the subregion Lyndoch. The vines were first planted here around 1960, over soils that are a mix of red clay and loam. At an average age of 60 years, the vines are low-yielding, with the dense soil structure delivering fruit with opulence.
The craft of this wine is minimalistic to best showcase the pristine fruit from this single source. Juice is partially gravity-flowed, with gentle pigeage to extract tannins, colour and flavour. The wine is then aged in a combination of new and second-use French oak for 16-18 months before bottling.
Krondorf’s 121 Settlers Shiraz 2021 (RRP $115) will be available at www.krondorfwines.com.au, select Dan Murphy’s stores and at the Krondorf Wines Barossa Valley Cellar Door & Wine Bar from 15 May.

About Krondorf Wines
The village of Krondorf, as we know it, dates back to 1847 when a group of Silesian settlers arrived in South Australia seeking a better life. They found it in a small hamlet, which they named ‘Krondorf’, meaning ‘Crown Village’ in German. The families that formed this tight-knit community became some of the most influential names in Barossa Valley, establishing many of the well-known and loved wineries today.
The Krondorf community was bound together by three values: love, faith and hope. These ideals were central to life in the village and can still be seen today on many of the old marble headstones at Krondorf cemetery.
Today, Krondorf Wines honours this legacy, producing wines that reflect the provenance of the Barossa Valley, guided by Chief Winemaker Tim Heath.
