Customer wins $50K cash prize from his favourite bottle shop BWS

A loyal BWS customer did not at first believe he had won a major cash prize by playing the free BWS Cooler app this summer.

Tony, 46, from Elizabeth Grove, SA, was left gobsmacked when he was contacted by representatives of the national drinks retailer, and told he had taken home the grand cash prize of $50,000 from this year’s BWS Cooler app promotion.

“I thought it was a prank at first when they contacted me to tell me I have won $50,000,” Tony said.

“The prize couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s not been a great year, and money has been tight after the hail claimed our car. This will definitely help us buy a new car, pay some bills and finally take care of some long overdue house renovations. I better treat my wife Sharon too,” he added. 

Tony works as a trade assistant and is also a carer for his wife, who is living with lymphoma. The father of five and grandfather of two has been an avid player of the BWS Cooler. 

“Me and my wife Sharon and our two adult sons have been playing the BWS Cooler for the last two summers, and it’s been a competition among us to see who’s won the better prizes. Wine credits was our favourite, and we used this to buy port wine from our local BWS Elizabeth Tavern Drive-Thru store, which is our favourite bottleshop, and filled our port barrel,” he said. 

The BWS Cooler is the drinks retailer’s yearly in-app summer fun, where customers can swipe for free daily for a chance to win. 

This year, BWS gave away a whopping $20 million worth of prizes which included everything from free drinks to ‘SipCoin’ (the digital currency that lets you save on the drinks you love) and electronics, hot air balloon rides as well as the grand prize of $50,000,

This summer was the first year BWS had a cash prize, and for every time a customer played the BWS Cooler, they automatically went into the draw to win the grand prize of $50,000. 

“We are so thrilled to be able to award Tony with our first ever cash prize,” said BWS Head of Marketing Anna Webster.

“Both new and existing customers love the BWS Cooler, and it’s one of the ways we like to surprise and delight customers and also have a bit of fun,” she added.

The BWS Cooler is always free to play via the BWS app, and this year, customers were able to swipe every day between 5th January to 1st of March.
